Galvalume® Cold Rolled Sheet

What is Galvalume®?

Galvalume is an engineered coating consisting nominally of 55% Al, 43.5% Zn and 1.5% Silicon. It was developed to combine the galvanic protection of galvanized coatings with the barrier protection of aluminized coatings. The result is an economical, highly corrosive resistant coating with superb heat resistance and reflectivity.

Why use Galvalume?

Galvalume is ideal for applications which require superior corrosion performance (compared to G90 galvanized) or when high reflectivity and temperature oxidation resistance is needed. Galvalume resists discoloration when subjected to temperatures up to 600°F.

The excellent corrosion protection provided by the Galvalume coating allows CMG to warranty our product against perforation for 20 years and 6 months on AZ50 coated material and 25 years and 6 months on AZ55 coated material. Please contact your CMG representative for further details.

In addition to being corrosion resistant, the highly reflective surface of Galvalume sheet helps lower air conditioning cost during summer months. These qualities make Galvalume the ideal roofing material.

Current uses for Galvalume

Examples of applications currently utilizing Galvalume include:

  • Metal roofing and siding
  • Walk in refrigerator panels
  • Patio furniture
  • Doors or door frames
  • Grain storage bins
  • Farm machinery
  • Piping
  • Appliance brackets and panels
  • Ductwork
  • Chimney pipe
  • Exhaust system components
  • Heat shields

Unacceptable Applications

Not all applications are ideal for Galvalume. In some cases, CMG advises against the use of Galvalume or, at a minimum, taking appropriate measures to prevent corrosion. Examples of applications that may compromise the useful life of the product include:

  • Environments where there will be direct contact with lead, graphite, cement, copper, run off from copper flashing and/or piping, or treated lumber.
  • Severely corrosive environments such as repeated exposure to harsh chemicals, animal confinement buildings or contact with seawater.
  • Perforated or expanded metal sheet
  • Parts requiring right radius bends of less that 2T for sheet thickness of .030″ and under and bends less than 4T for sheet thickness above .030″
